AGI Countdown: Are We Really Just 24 Months Away from Superintelligence?

Artificial Intelligence

Today marks one year since Sam Altman mentioned that OpenAI had internally achieved AGI (Artificial General Intelligence) on September 26th (He clarified it was kidding). But, if it was true and AGI were truly here, wouldn’t we be seeing exponential growth towards superintelligence by now?

The reality is, we’re not there yet. Based on my entrepreneurial instincts, coding experience as a full-stack developer, and AI advancements, I predict AGI could be 18-24 months away. And reaching ASI (Artificial Superintelligence) could take an additional two years.

The true test of AGI is its ability to create something superior, like how humans continuously evolve our cognitive speeds. Right now, we’re not producing more intelligent beings—just advancing the tools.

The real question is:

Who is building AGI and ASI?

These entities need ethical oversight and governance. Why? Because when ASI emerges, it will have the potential to create cyber viruses, hyper-realistic videos, and manipulate populations. We need systems in place that can unplug it if necessary.

ASI could arrive between 2028 and 2030. By then, humanity could be facing a formidable entity, potentially beyond our control. Those involved in the development of AGI and ASI must be transparent with governments and the public—and these organizations need to have a seat at the table.

If you’re interested in AI, it’s time to wake up. Awareness is key. Share this to spread the message.
